CFB Comox mourns the sudden death of WO Joseph R. Ireland. WO Ireland was born in Oshawa, Ontario 16 September 1932. At the age of 18 he joined the RCAF on 12 Mar 1951 and began an extended and colourful career. As an Armourer he decided to volunteer as a member of the Para Rescue Team. WO Ireland served as a SAR member for years before reverting back to the armament trade where eventually he became an Air Weapons Technician 572. Before his untimely passing, WO Ireland had become the longest serving armourer in the CAF.
